Start Something Youth Program To Receive Portion of Proceeds From Target World Challenge 2006

More Than 4.5 Million Youth Inspired by Character Education Program

MINNEAPOLIS (Dec. 12, 2006) – A portion of the proceeds from the 2006 Target World Challenge — taking place December 14-16 at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. — will benefit Start Something, a free, nationwide character education, volunteer service and career exploration program created by Target and the Tiger Woods Foundation. Since its debut in 2000, the program has enrolled more than 4.5 million youth, and Target Stores has awarded more than $1.2 million to Start Something scholarship winners around the country.

Based on a book by Earl Woods, Start Something is a free program for youth 8-17 that addresses three national priorities: character education, volunteer service and career exploration. Through participation in Start Something, youth define a specific personal goal and develop an action plan to achieve it while giving back to their community and exploring careers that fit within their areas of interest. Start Something participants have the chance to qualify for individual grants of up to $5,000 to assist in pursuing their interest.

According to Tiger Woods, “The Start Something curriculum gives children the encouragement and guidance they need to develop self-confidence, a positive attitude and the belief that they can make a difference in the world.”

Start Something is also a core program of the Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC), an innovative youth-education facility located in Anaheim, that represents the vision of Tiger Woods and his goal to provide critical youth-development programs in Orange County, Calif. The TWLC features Start Something as part of its curriculum designed to provide 4th through 12th grade students with critically important free interactive enrichment programs in reading, math, science and technology. Start Something also features a new High School Self-Study Guide, designed for highly motivated high school students who would like to go through the Start Something program individually or with a mentor.

Teachers and youth group leaders can obtain the Start Something program for use with groups by visiting www.target.com/startsomething or by calling 1-800-316-6142. High school students can also order or download the High School Self-Study Guide via the Web site and 800 number. All Start Something curriculum materials are also available for download in Spanish at www.Target.com/startsomething.
