CONCORD, N.C. (June 23, 2008) Scott Pruett and the Target team put themselves in position to earn a solid finish in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway, but a late-race incident relegated the team to a 38th-place finish.
Scott Pruett stepped behind the wheel of the No.41Target Dodge for Reed Sorenson, the full-time driver of the No. 41, Sunday afternoon. Pruett played double-duty this weekend as he competed at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Lexington, Ohio) in the Rolex Series event Saturday where he and teammate Rojas currently lead the Rolex Series driver and team championship race.
The No. 41 Target Dodge lined up 27th for the start of first of two road course events this season. Immediately, the road-course veteran maneuvered around the 1.99-mile course and gained five spot in the first two laps. The first caution flag waved during a string of green-flag pit stops on lap 30. While marked as 16th, Pruett drove the Target Dodge onto pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. On lap 32, the team restarted in 27th and in no time Pruett had worked his way up to 19th.
With the checkered flag in sight, Pruett and team were hoping to cross the finish line with a solid top-15 finish. With three laps left in the scheduled 110-lap event, Pruett was hit from behind by the No. 20 car. The severe front damage sent the Dodge to pit road and eventually back to the garage, resulting in a 38th-place finish.
Next week Sorenson and the Target team return to the ovals as the NSCS teams travel to New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS). Live television coverage of the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 will be broadcast on TNT beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will provide simultaneous radio coverage of the race.
