Dixon Leads Team Target at Milwaukee Mile with Runner Up Finish

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (June 1, 2008) - On the heels of his win at the 92^nd running of the Indianapolis 500 last weekend, Team Target’s Scott Dixon started third and finished second at the Milwaukee Mile Sunday afternoon, scoring his fifth top-three finish of the season. Teammate Dan Wheldon started seventh on the grid and drove a clean race to finish fourth.

Dixon had the dominant car for the majority of the event on the 1-mile oval, leading 147 of the 225 laps at Milwaukee, which contributed to the No.9 team’s recent run of leading 508 of the last 825 laps in IndyCar Series competition. Dixon has also led 100 or more laps in four consecutive races.

Wheldon finished fourth on the strength of four flawless pit stops from his Target crew to score his fourth top-five finish of the season.

The No.9 team extended their lead in the IndyCar Series championship from 15 to 28 with 238 points, 28 markers over Helio Castroneves. Wheldon retains third place in the title race with 185 (-49). Up next for the Target team is Texas Motor Speedway this Saturday, June 7 at 10:00 PM ET (Live on ESPN2).

Scott Dixon: "It was a pretty good day for Team Target. We were dominant early on, and the car was really good early on in the stint. I think where we struggled was toward the end of the stint. It didn’t seem to be a problem early on, because the other guys were falling off, too. Briscoe, you have to give him credit. He drove the wheels off that thing. He could really take advantage of the high line when I tried a couple of times and nearly ended up in the fence. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, to be honest. It was a hell of a race towards the end. I’m just glad it didn’t come down to traffic being the deciding factor, and it almost was with Briscoe almost being taken out by those guys crashing. It was a tough race. I’m a little disappointed we didn’t come up with the win, but its fantastic points for the championship."

Dan Wheldon: "I had a car that was just a little conservative, so that’s why it was difficult for me to run up high. For the most part, I think it was a pretty good race. (Racing) kind of swayed back and forth."
