Biography
Shaun White is many things but most notably he's driven. Charging his way through every competition he enters, Shaun has racked up many of the highest accolades in the world of action sports over the past five years. From a gold medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics to consecutive top honors at the X Games, he is seemingly unstoppable. And thanks to his effortless wins and rare disappointments as a pro-snowboarder and skateboarder, Shaun is undeniably the most recognized action sports athlete around the world, the first to win Summer and Winter X-Games gold. But don't expect Shaun to tell you that – modest and down to Earth, he's happy doing what he loves, his sights permanently set on finding the perfect pipe with family and friends in tow.
Shaun, a Target sponsored athlete since 2002, first began snowboarding at six years old. Boldly following his older brother Jesse off jumps, he developed his most distinguishing quality from the word go: fearlessness. And even though he's a habitual globetrotter, some of his fondest memories are freeriding with his family at Big Bear where he originally learned to ride goofy foot with lightening speed. Not surprisingly White garnered his first sponsorship just a few years later, turning pro at age 13 in 1999, then going on to capture the Arctic Challenge title in 2001 for his first major win.
Since then Shaun consistently garners podium time with intricate skills like back and frontside 1080's coupled with his notoriously massive air. Voted 2007's Transworld Snowboarding's Rider of the Year, Shaun isn't deterred by the pressure, using it to his advantage to push himself, going bigger and landing everything better.
Shaun has countless tricks up his sleeve, even on a skateboard. In 2003 Shaun added pro-skateboarder to his resume, becoming the first athlete ever to compete and medal in both the Summer and Winter X Games in two different sports. In 2007 Shaun set unparalleled standards winning the overall title and prestigious honor of AST Dew Cup Champion thanks to his impressive skills in skateboarding vert.
Whether on a halfpipe or vert ramp, this three time ESPY award winner is undoubtedly a talented athlete. With the possible addition of skateboarding to the 2012 Olympics, it appears Shaun will continue to raise the bar, possibly making history by competing in both the winter and summer Olympic Games.
Along with his athletic accomplishments Shaun is also savvy in film and design, and playing guitar. When he's not busy charging pipes and shredding ramps, Shaun is also a true ambassador of the sport and Target through charity, frequently visiting Target House with his fellow Target team members.
