Seasonal Flu Vaccinations Will Be Available at Target Pharmacy Nationwide Beginning September 20th

No appointment necessary to keep healthy this season

MINNEAPOLIS (September 2009) – Target® announces that flu vaccinations will be available beginning September 20th at Target Pharmacy locations nationwide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends nearly everyone protect themselves against this potentially serious illness.  With more than 1,500 pharmacy locations, guests can easily safeguard their health in advance of the winter flu season.

No appointment is necessary for the vaccinations, which will be available at Target Pharmacy locations daily, during pharmacy hours throughout the flu season.  The pharmacists at Target Pharmacy will be administering the flu vaccinations starting at only $24.  Visit target.com/flu for specific Pharmacy locations, as Pharmacy hours and program age restrictions vary by store and state.  Target Pharmacy accepts many different insurance plans so the vaccinations are often covered at no out-of pocket charges to guests.

“Target Pharmacy is a convenient, affordable option for parents looking to keep themselves and their families healthy this flu season,” said Keri Jones, senior vice president of, Target.  “By offering vaccinations with no appointment necessary, Target aims to make parent’s lives a little easier.”

Annually in the United States, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications.  Yearly flu vaccinations are recommended to begin as early as September, or as soon as the vaccine is available. Older people, young children and people with certain health conditions are at high risk for serious flu complications.  Guests can refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov) for more information about flu shot candidates.

Although it does not protect against H1N1, the seasonal flu vaccine is essential to protecting families and is recommended by the CDC.  An H1N1 vaccine is currently being produced and distributed by the federal and state government.

Target Pharmacy offers several convenient programs to keep guests and their families healthy throughout the year.  Target launched ClearRx in 2005 – a first-of-its kind prescription system. The prominently-placed label clearly displays all information, making prescription information easier to understand. Additionally, to help parents make medicine time quick-and-easy, Target Pharmacy offers more than a dozen free flavor options for liquid medicine – including over-the-counter medications.

Families can also save money by taking advantage of the Target $4 Generics program. The program offers over 300 generic medicines, while encouraging guests to save money by obtaining a 30-day supply for just $4. Target offers even more savings with a 90-day supply of the generic prescription for $10.  Target continues to help guests save with their Pharmacy Rewards program. Guests who fill 10 prescriptions with their Target REDcard will receive a 10 percent off shopping day at Target.

In addition, Target Clinic’s in Minnesota and Maryland, provide fast, on-the-spot medical care, including services for minor illnesses and injuries and immunizations, which are administered by highly trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants. No appointment is necessary for the vaccinations, which are available daily at Target Clinic locations during clinic hours, including weekday evenings and weekends.
