California-born Erin Fetherston is an American designer living in Paris. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2002, Fetherston enrolled in Parsons School of Design’s Paris-based postgraduate design program in 2003. She called the city’s Saint Germain neighborhood home and, upon graduating in 2004, showed her first couture collection at Paris Haute Couture Spring 2005.
Creating ethereal ready-to-wear dresses and separates, the designer is living her very own fashion fairy tale. While on vacation with her fiancé’s family, she unearthed a treasury of antique textiles that her fiancé’s mother, a former chef d’atelier at Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent - and whom Fetherston calls, “her very own fairy godmother,” had stowed away. Fetherston borrows inspiration from these heirlooms and creates flirty, feminine pieces that include details such as hand-knit and hand-painted lace.
Heralded as “an American triumph of the French Couture,” Fetherston also created a ready-to-wear line with dreams of seeing her creations grace the streets of the city that has so inspired her. Fetherston kept her couture design aesthetic while gracefully translating her visions into pieces that can really be worn. Fetherston debuted in the UPS Hub in Bryant Park during New York Spring 2007 Fashion Week showing a collection that was as beautiful as it was wearable. Creating clothes for a customer base that she calls the “urban wildflower,” Fetherston has already received rave reviews from fashion fans like Kirsten Dunst, Karen Elson and Zooey Deschanel.
Erin Fetherston will debut her exclusive collection of women’s fashion and accessories as part of the GO initiative at Target. GO, which provides affordable luxury from world-renowned designers, will feature the Erin Fetherston for Target collection in select Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com from November 18 through the end of December 2007.
