Justin Giunta Biography

Justin Giunta is known among celebrities, art enthusiasts and savvy style mavens for his ability to combine fine art and commercial design in the creation of visual and thoughtful pieces.

Justin Giunta was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. A student at several art institutions including Pratt Institute, and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a fellowship from Yale University Guinta has worked in different mediums for the past five years, ranging from painting, fashion, industrial design, and now jewelry, to create work that sits on the continuum of fine art and commercial design. Giunta designs all Subversive jewelry and most recently was a CFDA/Vogue fashion fund finalist and was awarded the inaugural accessories prize from the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation. He lives and works in New York City.

“In my work I am always drawing parallels between art history and modern design to explore themes of fine art and commercial design. The only difference between the two seems to be where you sell it. “

With this in mind, Subversive Jewelry plays with the idea of the baroque philosophy that more is more, and the modern idea of deconstruction in fashion. Each piece is designed with a concept behind it, so it is both visual and thoughtful.

Achieving a spectrum of clientele Subversive Jewelry, carves a steadfast niche that encompasses fine art, craftsmanship and commercial design.

As the second jewelry designer in a series of limited-time-only accessories designers, Target has teamed up with Justin Giunta for their most recent limited-edition accessories collaboration. The Subversive for Target jewelry collection will be available at select Target stores nationwide and at Target.com March 23 through July 20, 2008.
