Fashion: Trend Accessories
Prior to launching her own eponymous collection of handbags and footwear in fall 2006, designer Joy Gryson honed her skills working for industry powerhouses such as Coach, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.
Born in Korea, Gryson was adopted at the age of three and a half and has been a New Yorker ever since. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Gryson traveled the world designing and developing some of the most recognized handbags in the industry.
Gryson’s namesake edgy collection combines luxury design and practical details, such as multiple straps and pockets. Gryson has become known for her mix of Italian leather in rich hues(burgundy, chocolate, khaki, black, white) and understated details like woven top handles, brass hardware and signature hanging ID tags. Gryson's approach to design is to make the inside of a bag as beautiful as the outside.
In its short time, Gryson has garnered a cult following in the fashion industry, among celebrities such as Jessica Biel and Michelle Williams. The year-old brand is now sold in more than 100 high-end boutiques and department stores worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Joy is married to Peter Gryson, who is also her business partner, and they have a five-year old daughter named Olivia. Having been adopted, Joy dedicates much of her time to help raise awareness and funds for the not-for-profit adoption agency, Family Focus Adoption Services, where her mother is the Executive Director.
As the sixth in a series of limited-time-only accessories designers, Target has teamed up with Joy Gryson for their most recent limited-edition accessories collaboration. The Gryson for Target handbag collection will be available at select Target stores nationwide and at Target.com April 6 through June 21, 2008.
