Target Field Trip Grants Program

As part of its commitment to provide educational resources for America’s schools, Target launched the Target Field Trip Grants program in 2006. The program was designed to help teachers bring learning to life for students and enhance classroom studies. Target Field Trip Grants can be used to cover the cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and classroom resource materials so that teachers may continue using the valuable experiential learning gained from math and science, language, social studies and arts-focused field trips.
  • The program was so enthusiastically embraced by teachers its first year, that Target doubled the number of grants available to 1,600 in 2007, equaling $1.6 million in funds and reaching nearly 190,000 students.
  • In 2008, Target will award 5,000 field trips grants to educators, which equates to 1 in every 25 K-12 schools receiving a grant.
  • Grant recipients are selected based on the following criteria: the description of the field trip and its objectives, benefits to students, tie-in to the school curriculum, number of students who would be impacted and proposed use of funds.
  • The Target Field Trip Grants program is open to full-time educators, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff employed by an accredited K-12 public, private or charter school in the U.S., having a 501(c)(3) or 509(a)(1) tax-exempt status.
From art museums and environmental projects to cultural events and civic experiences, schools nationwide used their Target Field Trip Grant to participate in exciting and educational learning adventures. Sixty-two second graders Creekside Park Elementary in Anchorage will visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center, while 75 fourth graders from M. Agnes Jones Elementary School in Atlanta will visit the High Museum of Art. And more than 630 students in California will visit the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles thanks to the Target Field Trip Grants program.

Educators can apply for the 2008/2009 Target Field Trip Grants program online at Target.com/teachers from

September 2, 2008 through November 1, 2008.

Since 1946, Target has given five percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that’s more than $3 million every week.
