Target Field Trip Grants Provide Students with Hands-On Learning Outside the Classroom
Educators Nationwide Eligible for $4 Million in Field Trip Funding
MINNEAPOLIS (September 9, 2008) — Today, Target announced the launch of the Target Field Trip Grants program online application for the 2008/2009 school year. The initiative, designed to help teachers bring learning to life outside the classroom, will distribute 5,000 grants up to $800 to education professionals throughout the U.S., which means that one out of every 25 schools in America will have a classroom go on a field trip courtesy of Target.
Applications for the Target Field Trip Grants program will be available online at Target.com/teachers from September 2, 2008 through November 1, 2008. Recipients will be notified in January 2009. Criteria for the selection of grant recipients was based on: description of the field trip and its objectives; the benefits to students and the tie-in to the school curriculum; the number of students who will be impacted; and the proposed use of funds. Funds may be used to cover the cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and equipment and resource materials.
"With the current economic conditions and our nation’s schools facing increasing budget shortages each year, field trips are often one of the first elements eliminated from the curriculum," said
Laysha Ward, president, community relations, Target. "It is our hope that the Target Field Trip Grants program will continue to help fill this gap, so that students can benefit from the invaluable learning experiences gained from field trips and enhance their classroom studies."
Launched in 2006, the Target Field Trip Grants program is open to educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff employed by a K-12 public, private or charter school in the U.S., having a 501(c)(3) or 509(a)(1) tax-exempt status. Only one submission per applicant will be accepted. Previous winners are welcome to apply. Field trips must take place during the 2008/2009 calendar school year.
The Target Field Trip Grants program further demonstrates the company’s commitment to educational support for America’s schools. By listening to what K-12 teachers’ nationwide need, Target is helping to provide them with the best possible resources for educating the children that will be shaping the country’s future.
