Take Charge of Education

Take Charge of Education® is a school fundraising initiative that offers families, teachers and community members an easy way to designate an eligible K-12 school of their choice nationwide and have Target donate an amount equal to one percent of their REDcardSM (Target® Visa® Credit Card, Target Credit CardSM and Target Check CardSM) purchases made at Target and Target.com*. In addition, Target donates ½ percent of all Target Visa Credit Card purchases made everywhere else Visa credit cards are accepted.

Take Charge of Education embraces the company’s commitment to education and is designed to enhance educational efforts for children in communities across the country. Take Charge of Education dollars are donated to America’s eligible K–12 schools in March and September. Recipient schools can allocate these undesignated funds for anything they need, from books, classroom supplies, field trips or new technology.
  • Since the program’s inception in 1997, Target has donated more than $246 million to more than 100,000 schools nationwide. That number represents 75 percent of the schools in the U.S.
  • The Target September 2008 Take Charge of Education payout awarded $14.9 million to schools across the country.
  • In 2007 alone, Target paid more than $30 million to participating schools through the Take Charge of Education program.
Cardholders and school representatives can visit Target.com/tcoe, call 1-800-316-6142 or log on to kiosks at Target stores to enroll, select an eligible K-12 school or check the status of particular payouts.

Since 1946, Target has given five percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that’s more than $3 million every week.
